Attorney Pat Riggs is a native of Oakland California. He received his BA Magna Cum Laude in English from San Francisco State in 1979. He was also accepted into the prestigious creative writing program at SFSU and was mentored by Poet William Dickey and Poet / Novelist Frances Mayes.
After undergraduate school Pat became a certified welder where his employment led to union labor negotiations at Teamster Joint Western Council 7 in Oakland. This work led to law school. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Francisco. While still in Law School he worked as a legal aide for the Santa Clara County Public Defender's Office.
Upon graduation, Pat applied for and was hired, first in his 1990 class by San Diego County Public Defender Office, one of the most progressive PD offices in the country. At SDPD he was promoted rapidly and was a team leader. This work suited him well and was trained to value, assess and bring a case in the fast paced San Diego County Superior Courts.
Private practice has continued since the early 2000's where Pat has implemented the ethics learned during his early years as a public servant. He has been described by his former supervisors as "never one to shy away from the difficult case or client."

Pat has acquittals in a variety of criminal cases including Homicide, Sexual Abuse, Rape, DUI, Possession for Sale, and has a rare criminal defense victory in a high-profile work place shooting of Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity.
For many years clients have been trusting Pat in the courtroom. Many of his client's are facing prison exposures of "life tops" and the cultural taboos against his client base is very strong.
Pat has been married for 30 plus years and enjoys solo hiking the Eastern Sierras and restoring antique automobiles. He is also is very active at his Catholic Parish in Oakland.
